Whether you build a storage building yourself or
have an expert contractor build one for you, there
are several things to consider to make sure you
select the appropriate storage building.
The first consideration is size. Make
sure your storage building is not only big enough to house
your largest piece of equipment, but make sure the door is
wide enough, too. Most storage buildings that are at
least 8'x10" come with double doors which is ideal.
Additionally, buying a storage building with a loft greatly
increases storage space and allows you to store rarely used
items overhead.
A second consideration is accessibility.
Besides having a wide enough door on your storage building,
adding a pressure treated ramp will ensure that you can get
heavy equipment in and out easily. Also, make sure
there is enough light in your storage building. You
can add a light or window if enough light does not come
through the door. Some storage buildings come with
skylights.
Another consideration is how your storage
building looks. Does it match your home or does it look like
an eyesore? Is it made of a material that will look ugly in
just a few years? This is where hiring an expert contractor
for storage buildings comes in. Have a storage
building custom made to match the design and color of your
home with quality materials.
Even simpler sheds can be made to add beauty
to your yard by customizing it to match the look of your
home. It is just as important to build a shed out of
quality materials to maximize the years before you have to
rebuild it.
After your storage building is constructed
you can embellish it with touches such as window boxes,
shutters, or weathervanes. Some storage buildings are
even made with French doors and cupolas.
If you already have a storage building and
it has become too small for your needs, consider
supplementing your main unit with one of several varieties
of less expensive models. Corner sheds are generally
3'x3'x2' and are made to fit right into a corner. A
verticle shed (5'x3'x4') or a horizontal shed (3'x5'x4')
)can fit nicely against your current storage building or
home. Hiring a storage building contractor means being
able to customize the look of your shed to match your larger
storage building.
Another way to increase space is to build a
lean-to (a single pitched roof) and attach it to the side of
your storage building. This is a great place to store
firewood. Potting sheds and small greenhouses give an
enthusiast a place to store their gardening materials.
Also, outdoor benches provide compartment space in their
bases while offering a nice place to relax.
